Some career journeys aren’t about climbing ladders—they’re about finding meaning. For Marcus Scarlett, becoming Team Lead of Cleaning at FinVector wasn’t part of the original plan. But when life redirected him, he followed with purpose—and found not just a career, but a mission.

A childhood dream, and a turn toward service

Growing up in the UK, Marcus’s childhood dream was to become a police officer. That ambition stayed with him well into his academic years, leading him to study criminology with a minor in philosophy. After graduation, he joined the London police force, fulfilling a goal he had nurtured for years. But as time passed and life shifted, Marcus found himself in Finland building a family and searching for something deeper—something aligned not only with service, but with personal meaning.

Loss, purpose, and a new beginning in Finland

When Marcus lost his mother to lung cancer, that search became personal. The pain of that experience stayed with him—and so did a desire to do something that would matter to others facing the same battle. After living for a few years in Finland and discovering FinVector, it all felt like a calling.

“Knowing the company is contributing to life-saving treatments… that meant something to me,” Marcus shares. “Even as a cleaning specialist, I knew I could be part of that.”

Leading with care and precision

Marcus now leads FinVector’s Cleaning Team, responsible for maintaining and monitoring the cleanrooms and manufacturing environments critical to producing its advanced therapies. He oversees not only the execution but also the detailed documentation and adherence to exacting standards. Every action, every checklist, contributes to a chain of care that culminates with hope for patients around the world.

“As Team Lead, I’m accountable for ensuring our facilities meet the highest standards every single day,” he says. “It’s about attention to detail, but also about pride. We know why we do what we do.”

Lumi and life beyond work

Outside of work, Marcus finds his balance in family life. His young daughter Lumi is the light of his life, and being present for her is just as important as any shift or standard operating procedure.

“Having Lumi changed everything,” he reflects. “I used to think success was about career titles or achievements, but now it’s also about being there for her—watching her grow, being part of those little everyday moments.”

Living in Kuopio, surrounded by nature and a slower pace of life, allows Marcus to fully embrace both sides of himself—the professional with a sense of mission, and the father learning to slow down and savour time.

A message for others searching for meaning

Marcus’s story is a reminder that careers don’t have to follow straight lines. “You might not start out in biopharma. I certainly didn’t,” he says with a smile. “But if you care about people, if you want to be part of something bigger, there’s a place for you here.”

From London patrols to Finnish cleanrooms, from personal loss to delivering hope—Marcus Scarlett’s journey is about finding purpose, building trust, and embracing life in all its forms.
